DPTSc Admissions Requirements

To be eligible for admission to the UCSF/SFSU DPTSc Program, a student must:

  1. Be a graduate of an accredited physical therapy educational program
  2. Hold a license to practice physical therapy in the State of California or be eligible for licensure in California
  3. Have a GPA of 3.0 or better in both undergraduate and graduate studies
  4. Have completed undergraduate coursework equivalent to the prerequisites for the entry level UCSF/SFSU MS program in Physical Therapy
    1. Basic Sciences:
      Anatomy, Physiology, Physics, Chemistry
    2. Behavioral and Applied Sciences:
      Introductory Statistics, Computer Science
    3. Social Sciences:
      Psychology, Abnormal Psychology
  5. Obtain a minimum of 500/section of the GRE and 450 on the Writing Test
  6. Have documented evidence of leadership in the profession or in their graduate professional studies
  7. Submit three strong letters of recommendation
  8. Provide a clear statement of professional goals and rationale for pursuing a Doctoral degree in Physical Therapy Science
  9. Have a history of leadership in the profession within the community
  10. Have prior experience participating or working in clinical research and be interested in developing their skills as a clinical researcher
  11. Be interested in developing skills as an educator
  12. Be able to read, write, and clearly speak English with documented competency
